Idea: A retro-ish rpgs game where you don't actually play an RPG, but just get thrown into random scenes (village, city, inn, etc.) and are tasked to retrieve one specific item. Doesn't need much context, but can involve puzzles and searching - a minigame if you will.
That sounds great. I'm getting the itch to make something like that right now... I can see it already: Clueless Quest!

However, the random part I might have trouble with. Not very good at random generation.

Maybe I'll give it a try, see how it turns out. That OK with you, Adam? It is your idea, after all.

EDIT: Added maybe. Not too sure.

Idea: An escort mission, but you're actually the one being escorted. Your goal is not to die. Calling for help, not getting in the way and stepping carefully under pressure (a chase maybe?) could be game mechanics.

Here's an idea I've always wanted to do but could never flush out the details enough that I wanted to get started. Really, the graphics required always held me back... which is just like every game project I've had :troubled:

Idea: 2d side scrolling sci-fi action-platformer where your characters wields a "Mirror-Sword". This sword has various special abilities:

1) With a swipe of the sword a mirror will appear floating in the air, which you can then hit to send shards of glass flying at your enemies.

2) You can create two connected mirrors that can then be used as a teleporter, much like the Portal games. Opens up puzzle options.

3) Placing a mirror in between you and the enemy will cause them to become momentarily confused. Useful for fights that you must avoid.

I kind of envision this being a sci-fi styled mash-up of Portal and Dust: An Elysian Tail.

As a side not: if you haven't played Dust. Do so now - it's one of the most well-made games I have ever played.

Idea: A pixel art style, but the "pixels" aren't actually rectangular, but arbitrarily shaped, whereas the objects they compose consist strictly of rectangular shapes.

Nice topic. I'd like to drop a game idea I had some months ago when I was thinking of new modes for my game.

Idea: Well, imagine a RTS (realtime strategy) game world where there are villages/cities/tribes/whatever and all of them, except to the player's, are controlled by AI. Yeah, in most games of the genre the teams build, trade, fight each other, that kinda thing.

My idea was to make a RTS world, as dynamic as it gets since it's all controlled by the AI, but the player can only control a single man in the world. But you're not from a particular team, you can travel around the world, visit all of the cities, see some of them get destroyed, or bigger.

The game would be Diablo-like RPG, by with no quests...

OK, sounds boring, and that's where I stopped. I couldn't think of any simple solution to make the concept more interesting with not much effort (content-wise).

The player could need to sleep and eat so you'd need to work. Jobs could be hunting, delivering stuff from a city to another, finding people who're wanted in one of the cities. I don't know. That kind of thing. Would love hear ideas about it.

I also thought of making it so every NPC would have its own name, appearance and attributes, making them unique. You'd be free to build your character the way you wanted, and maybe finding NPCs that could teach you a thing or two about weapons, blocking, chemistry, sorcery, building, speech, that kind of skill.

Maybe you could get famous in a city and get stuff in its stores for free, or just get vilified. :P

Man, Dwarf Fortress seems to be everyone's dream game. I can't blame you, though. It's a pretty cool concept with lots of space to expand.

Back when I was still making a lot of space games, I've had a similar idea for a while: Imagine your regular space simulation game (Freelancer / Wing Commander: Privateer / ...), but instead of controlling a space ship in a nonlinear free exploration world, you control a single person. Knowing how much work it is to even do a regular space simulation of that type I pretty much immediately put that idea into the crazy bin and never really thought much about it.

And then Star Citizen happened.

Hey now, I'm sure that if you had a huge team, a large amount of resources and a hundred million dollar budget to pay for all of that, you'd be able to make a game like that, too.

EDIT: Speaking of space sims, have any of you guys played Pioneer? I just played it and it seems like a fun game.

Acquiring that kind of resources is a huge accomplishment on its own. In any case, I'm really curious what will come out of it. I'll probably have to buy a new PC to be able to play this and it might even be the first game I'll try in VR someday. Even after all the progress they've made, I'm still not entirely sure they'll make it to the end - though I kind of hope they do. ^^
