Hello, I have a situation where earlier today I was having a problem very similar to this one:
http://forum.adamslair.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=925

I checked for updates on the package manager and found the update to 2.8.0 (i think it was that), clicked update all and then "apply".

The program didn't restart however, so I went to open another project, this one didn't have any errors, updated it and same issue. Then I went ahead to an empty project did the same thing and the same happened but now a console window opened:

and it's been stuck there for a good few minutes, above that wall of text it says: "Waiting for file locks to release"

To clarify a bit more, Dualitor appears on the task manager as a background process but there is nothing i can do to make a window appear, also when trying to open it the logo flashes briefly.

Any help on what's this?

Looks like the editor crashed while preparing the apply-and-restart process. Could be a bug! Can you upload logfile_editor.txt and logfile_editor_prev.txt, as well as PackageConfig.xml both before and after updating?

logfile_editor_prev.txt is completely blank for me tough. Also does duality save the previous version of these files when it updates or where do i find the "before update" files (do i need to re-download duality)?

Yup, that's a bug. There was a problem with how mixed-mode auxiliary libraries were handled, should they end up in the Plugins folder. Fixed it now and triggered a release process, check for package updates in about 30 minutes.

Thanks for reporting this!

Guess you'll have to redownload the binary from the site and go from there?

Yep, that's the easiest way to do it.

Alternatively, get rid of the Plugins folder, as well as Source/Packages and manually edit PackageConfig.xml to download the latest versions on the next startup process. You can do that by removing the version numbers. Since we know that in this case, only core and editor have updated, removing only their version numbers should be sufficient.

Alright, I re downloaded duality, now, evrytime i open the editor the log view says there is an error but when i click to see it it disappears.

Anyhow, I went ahead to try to put my current projects in in a current version so I made a backup of the data and source folders and then made a new project from the recently updated working editor.

Then i pasted the data and source folders on this new project and when i try to start the editor it's stuck downloading packages forever. It dowloads the files, console opens, all the green letters, console closes, dowload dialogue opens again and so on and so forth.

I probably did something nasty to this?
help

Can you provide the full logfile_editor.txt after you did that? Also, what do you mean by "it disappears", and how did you see there was an error if it's gone?

Again, logfiles required, in this case both editor and editor_prev, as well as PackageConfig.xml.

Can you reproduce any of the two errors starting from a fresh download without copying over your old project files?

Edit:
Eldir wrote:

Wait a sec, does that mean you also pasted the Source/Packages subfolder? That might have created a package management problem, depending on how exactly the situation played out.
