I'd say it looks pretty nice. If you want some inspiration for the game, you could try out Distant Worlds : Universe. But it's a bit pricey now, I think.
Also, maybe you could look at Neptune's Pride. It does the "lite" aspect of 4X pretty well.
Keep working on it, it looks like it'll turn out pretty well.

Looks awesome :D Is there a "micro" version of this players can switch to, to use more of the screen for the galaxy map?

Looking good. I'm digging the hexagonal style of the menu elements.

Can't wait to see some of the new gameplay features. I like 4x games a lot.

Just a suggestion, and I know this is an early version of the menu, but:
You could show a randomly generated map played entirely by AI behind the menu. It would be quite nice to look at, but I don't know about the performance costs or how much work it would take to make that happen.

A transition animation would be good when you, for example, clicked on the Options menu. Otherwise it looks great. Was it made using your plugin?

Yes, but I will wait until all is working properly before I start dealing with the nice touches ^^ I already got burned more than once chasing after them too early.

This looks really good - and "professional", in a way :) The usual game menu is just a bunch of rectangular buttons in a vertical list - this one stands out there a bit. All the rest is polishing.

Good choice! Doing polishing too early is one of the prime reasons not to finish a game at all. And you can still collect all the suggestions and nitpicking for the polishing stage later :)
