Updated and finished my game !

Changes made :
  • Texts should be readable now
  • Bunnies get bigger as they have more health ! (by eating flowers)
  • You can now push bunnies instead of one-shotting them
  • Seeds dropped bu bunnies have an animation !
  • Spawn rate changed
  • Used a home-made auto-tilling to make everything prettier

Sources are available in the link
Warning : it's super messy

Yay! We need more jams!

I guess that giving an objective really pushes the development process forward.

Can't believe I was able to cook up a game in a couple of days, after messing around a whole lot of time.

Now for a more serious project! xD

Yes! A game jam is an awesome framing for a project. And having themes actually helps a lot. It takes away the initial void.

Random crazy side thought: I wonder if there could be such a thing as an evolutionary community game. Say, we start with a minimal prototype that I provide and then have a game jam where everyone extends it by gameplay element X or feature Y. We vote on all the results and pick the best one. Then another jam starts, with the last jam's winner. Now everyone implements gameplay element A, or feature B. We vote, someone wins. Next jam, the winner's version is where we start.

Probably a bad idea though xD

Back to regular jams: Any ideas what overarching topics we could use for future jams to replace the tilemaps one? I think suggesting and voting on three themes has worked well, but a shared characteristic of the entire jam helps too. Maybe have a fixed genre? A fixed gameplay element? Or should it be purely tech-related?

This is actually not a bad idea. For example, there is this youtuber called Quill18, who mainly creates game videos, and gathered quite a large audience. He also started a gamedev channel, and in the recent past, one of his tutorial series has been evolved to a community game project with over 700 commits on github, just in a few months.

Your idea is interesting too, but it's more competitive, than it is cooperative, because of only one idea passes. That might scared people away, and lets lose much work and ideas, probably great ones among them.

What about Duality User Interface Jam? :D

Just kidding. There could be many exciting common points between the entries. The one just got in my mind, and worth sharing is a jam, where participants can only use a given pool of graphics (and sound) assets. These limits empower creativity as well!

Actually I kinda like it. These could be like some kind of exercices ? A master post keeps track every step of the game. Each winner adds a new feature, that everybody implements. Thus someone not in the jam can come and see the evolution of several games based on the same guideline. And if a good part of the participants open-sources their project (each step separated would be better), these could act as valuable "tutorials".

My suggestion is that the topic for the next jam should be "Storytelling".
So everyone should tell a short and interesting story in his / her game.

What do u think?

I would take that challenge.

Or any other.

A community game evolving in the same vein as an exquisite corpse should work ok.

Like, each proponent would add a feature at will, and in the end, a game could be born.

I made it in a written form a while back, and the results were quite nice. Who knows what might come of it?

Haha! That's funny stuff.

Sounds like a good time to me. Would be really interested on seeing how it goes.
