Hello!

In this topic I will present you my current progress of my (new) game called Above The Horizon.
I developed a similar game in the past (click here), but its nearly one year old and I lost the source code. On top of that I learned a lot new things about developing games with duality.
So I started a new clean version of this game.

But enough idle talk...

The Concept
  • A big universe where you can explore different solar systems
  • Trade with other AIs
  • Fight against Spacepirates (AIs)
  • Upgrade your spaceship with different weapons and powerups
  • Buy new (better) Spaceships (faster, more cargo space, etc.)
  • Do quests like kill an enemy or transport some goods
  • ...
I know that some parts a very optimistic, but I'm motivated to do this stuff ^^

First of all I rewrite my movement system. So you don't stop instantly, when you releasing the keys ^^

(I crashed against the meteors purposely, so you can see the screenshake-effect xD)

At the moment I also try to develop (learn) some basic AI-Concepts:
(Path-Following)

So thats for all now. I wish everyone a nice weekend :)

Nice paralax effect. Simple and effective.

You have a nice roadplan, seems reasonable.
Good luck!

Ohh, I like it! The concept reminds me a lot of the first "serious" game I developed, mostly because that's some kind of gameplay I can get behind. Looks already quite nice :+1:

Flying looks great and arcade-y, like it's just waiting for fast-paced action. Also like the AI path following, because it's not the usual "Okay, I need to go EXACTLY into that direction" you usually see in AIs, but something much smoother, human-like.

Nice work!

@Adam: Thanks :)

Hey guys! ... and girls, maybe?

Here are some updates:
Most of the time I spent time with writing a complete ToDo-List, cleaning up my project structure
and added some graphic-elements.

Basic Gameplay:
