So.. hi there. I'm Adam.

I like developing games and have done so for almost as long as I've been playing them, if you count modding as a form of development. The first PC I was playing with was running on DOS command line and some of the first games I remember were Colonization, Wing Commander: Privateer, The Dark Eye and various smaller games.

Speaking of Colonization, that was the first game which I modded, and I think it might have been a key experience of sorts. Following that, I tried to mod pretty much every game that I enjoyed for an extended period of time, while learning various BASIC dialects to create my own games. Maybe it wouldn't be a stretch to say that gaming was the entry point for me to learn programming, but who knows.

I eventually ended up doing an internship in gamedev, then studying computer science while doing a student job in gamedev alongside. When I finished my studies, I basically never worked outside gamedev, and I kind of wanted to see what else there is, so I left the industry before entering completely, and continued developing games as a hobby. Duality originally came to be in my free time between semester courses, and then it kinda got out of control.

What am I doing while not doing all that dev stuff? I like science fiction and fantasy, both in book and film form. I also like pen & paper rpgs, as well as board games and other nerd-compatible social activity. Occasionally, I also do artsy things like writing or drawing, with varying degrees of success. Also, I'm sort of a cat person.

well, my name is SirePi and I'm a gaming addicted.. ok, sounds better (right?)

If you are wondering, the name is a combination of Sire (yes, "sire" as "king" - coming from my Dungeons&Dragons past) and Pi, which is basically the beginning of my surname.. creative huh?

I'm a developer by trade, going on over 10 years of experience in the field, and I have always had a soft spot for gaming, since my father took home our first computer, a wonderful Commodore Vic20 when I was 5. Since then, I would game at every chance I had, and ever since I began coding, I always wanted to make the "perfect game".

I'm what you would define the standard nerd: moderately shy, sometimes I express myself only with gifs and memes, passionate about sci-fi and fantasy stuff, gaming (of course) and technology, and not too much into going out and partying.

Hey! I'm ARC.

I started programming as a hobby about 7 years ago. My first experience with a programming language was with Lua in a little game engine called AGen. At the time I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, no idea how to program, and no idea what programming actually *meant*. All I knew was that I wanted to make a cool naval-warfare based game. I jumped in, and failed.

Shortly after wetting my feet I decided to broaden my perspective. I picked up Java and started learning, very slowly. The first functional piece of code that I wrote in Java was a little program that took a string of text and converted it into the ICAO phonetic alphabet. It wasn't much, but I was learning. A month or two after starting with Java I decided it was hard and I didn't like it... so I picked up C++.

I don't know why, but I fell in love with C++. Over the course of a handful of years I learned it inside and out. I started dozens of projects, the vast majority still remain unfinished, but with each project I learned something new and carried it over to the next. C++ gave me a love for and a comfort with the low level. For me, learning it demystified exactly how computers work on the lowest levels. I believe it remains my strongest language, but it's now my least used language.

Again in the interest of broadening my perspective, I picked up two more languages. C# and Python. I quickly became decently proficient in both, and eventually decided to focus my hobbyist attention on C#. I found Duality over a year ago, and here I am. I hope to eventually publish a game with Duality.

Although programming and gamedev are now passionate hobbies of mine, hobbies that I hope will one day consistently pay the bills, they only comprise part of my life. I go to work at 9am most days, in school I studied Geomatic Engineering, I like to cook, I love sailing and worked as a Harbor Master while I was in school, I'm a member of a ground search and rescue team, I have a beagle named Chloe, my favorite color is emerald green, my favorite color is also my eye color, I have a huge interest in metal machining and CNC machines and hope to one day buy or build one, my friend and I like to go target shooting on occasional weekends, and this list is getting too long.

So, me in a nutshell. Nice to meet you. If you're new, say hello!

There ain't much to know. I live in the UK. I've been makin games 4 a few years now. I work for Kliktrix Studios. (http://gamejolt.com/@KliktrixStudios https://kliktrixstudios.itch.io/ ) We're a very small group. We're not particularly popular either.
I mainly use Unity, but I prefer Duality for 2D games now (I also used to use Stencyl but it was too buggy).

My name is Christian and I'm <?= date("Y") - 1997; ?> years old.
At the moment I'm doing an apprenticeship as IT Specialist (Software-Development) in a data center.

At the age of 11 I started to build websites and I'm still fascinated to design them.
My first real programming language was VB.Net (shame on me). I've developed very simple tools like a HTML-Editor, Backup tool, etc.
3 years ago a friend of me talked about a programming language called C#. Maybe some of you heard of it.
Since then I'm manly using C# and I don't want to switch. (Thanks bro!)

Some times ago I become interested in game-development. I tried often to develop my own game engine with monogame... but then I realized that this purposes would take a lot of time just to build my own game. So I searched in the vastness of the Internet for an awesome gameengine.
Last year I found Duality and I'm totaly happy with it
I'm still learning many new things in C# by using duality, because duality is open source and so well written...

My hobbies are programming, play the drums, weight lifting, watching movies, motorcycling...

I am Torsten and joined this Forum today. So I wanted to say hello To introduce myself with a bit of my background: I am from Germany, mid-thirties, working at a big enterprise as a software engineer in my day job. There I develop software for backend systems for eCommerce businesses. At my youth I learned Basic and later Visual Basic 4/6 but switched already in my IT-related apprenticeship to .NET/C# shortly after the platform/language was released by MS and now it is stil my toolset for today.

My hobbies are surprisingly playing games, but of different kinds: Computer games, board games and pen & paper role-play-games. I realy like the fantasy and medieval stuff and also a bit of science fiction. I am watching some series. I do a bit of sport to get a contrast to my job. I also like digital drawing but spend too little time on it, so my skills are still awful

I am interested in game development since I began programming as a kid when it started as a hobby approximatly 20 years ago. In the earlier days of the Internet I was part of a loose hobbyiest game dev team. At that time I wrote a little 3D engine with VB6 and DirectX 7. But no game resulted in that effort unfortunately. The group disbanded and many many years passed without doing anything for game development, when I considered joining a small game studio. I even wrote a mini demo game in C# for the job application, but at the end I didn't wanted the job for different reasons. And then years passed again...

Then two years ago I began writing a game concept for a turn-based strategy game. The concept now has a state that a prototype is needed to see whether it has some potential or not. Still one thing had to be decided: Which game library or engine to choose to develop that prototype? For two or three weeks I did intensive research. I spend many hours or more likely days to evaluate various libs/engines, searched their documentation, watched tutorials, tried samples, used the libs by myself to see what it's like and so on. My list of possible libs/engines was long: SDL-CS, SFML.NET, Ultraviolet, UrhoSharp, CocosSharp, Monogame, FNA, Otter2D, Duality, WaveEngine, Xenko and Unity. And my final choice brought me here The reasons for Duality are numerous: You can easily draw in two dimensions, you have much control to do things via coding, the source code of Duality and it's API is good understandable. You have reasonable control over usage of antialiasing. The creator and the community still works on the engine to develop it further. Pure C# chain until OpenGL itself. The core lib has unit tests covering round about 50% of it's code. And yeah the editor is nice too, I especialy like the integration of code drawn things back to the editor. Excellent feature.

In the end I simply want to create my game prototype fast and efficiently without giving up too much control and having the possibility of doing some low-level stuff, if needed. And I think Duality fits my needs the most Sure, there are some drawbacks: Small community and no well-known reference games developed with Duality. You can also say it is not fully water proofen yet. But this is completly acceptable for me. Other aspects like Windows focus, missing GUI framework and networking, etc. are fine to me. So I am excited to work with Duality in the next months and I may post one or the other question here. But to be realy honest, I don't know if I will be active here in the community. At least you know I am there and I am using Duality, too

Hi everyone. I'm a little bit overdue for an introduction, but better late than never!

I'm LaughingLeader, a 26 year-old self-taught amateur developer from the USA, hoping to turn professional in the near future (with the release of a game or two). I'm a perfectionist by nature (as I'm sure most people who create things are), which makes finally releasing a game difficult, but my goal is to get past that and be able to make compromises, until I see my first game released.

I dabble in a few different programming languages, though I've mainly been focusing on C# in recent months. I enjoy creating software to make my life easier, and working on games.

My philosophy is that the less work I can do in the end, the better, so I make an effort to code things as extensible as possible, to save time down the road. This is a little bit of a paradox, since it means I end up doing more work upfront, but at the very least, I feel better knowing I'll save a headache or two not hard-coding something in.

Hobbies:

When I'm not in the midst of developing something, I enjoy trying to tackle my bloated Steam library (bundles ), going for walks, or watching an interesting show, my weaknesses being super hero-related movies or shows (DC animated universe, Marvel movies (despite their flaws)), and a well-done anime show (Great Teacher Onizuka, One Punch Man, Irresponsible Captain Tylor, to name a few). I also enjoy a wide variety of music genres, not limited to synthwave/outrun, video game music, jazz, and old school rap.

I live in a small town, and to the best of my knowledge, am the only one working on game development here, so the internet is pretty much required to find like-minded people. Bonus: I'm also one of the few vegetarian/vegans in the area.

I've also started streaming and watching streams recently, in and effort to put myself out there more and connect with the gamedev community. With that said, talking out loud (to yourself, or an imaginary audience) is a skill I need to develop further, so I wouldn't call my streams "entertaining" yet. Most of my gamedev streams have been for a friend or two that want to see what I'm working on.

On the topic of Duality:

I was drawn towards using Duality for a few reasons:

• Written in/utilizes C#
• Is Open Source, base code easily readable
• Has a nice editor that is customizable
• Has a physics system capable of handling different terrain shapes.
(Coming from an AABB collision system (HaxeFlixel), the idea of being able to use slopes and hills right away was tempting.)

It's taken a bit of an effort to figure out how things work within Duality, but I'm getting more comfortable by the day, and the benefit of such an open, extensible system has gradually revealed itself. I'm excited to keep developing with it!
