One bad thing about phpbb though is that it is horrible to read on a phone, but maybe this could be sorted by a user style? Would you be willing to add some extra styles that can be selected by users on their profiles?

I acknowledge the request, but there are a lot of other things higher up on the ToDo - a new forum style for mobile users probably won't happen soon. Sorry guys. :|

Actually it seems the latest version of phpBB supports a reactive, mobile style. (https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2307811) Would an upgrade be out of the question?

Not out of the question, but due to a lot of (anti-spam, style, feature) modifications on my local phpbb installation, an update is not a simple "press a button and wait" operation. Definitely will update phpbb at some point, but I'll probably wait with this until I know that I can spare a few days.
