The last thing I did was renaming the component. Now I get this and can't open the scene(double-click does nothing)

Renaming components while there is still one in the scene = bad :D

Usually at this point I think I have 2 choices:
  1. Go back to the component's old name as it was before, remove it from the Scene, rename it, and add it again.
  2. If you are still saving your Scene as XML, you can try to open it with a text editor and manually change the references to the old name to the new one. Usually it works, but I can't guarantee this will always be true.

Good luck

Oh thank you, the 1 method did that. I think this needs to be documented somewhere for newbies like me.

Additionally, for more severe cases, you can always tell Duality how to handle stuff it can't find (like renamed Components) by deriving a custom SerializeErrorHandler and resolving errors on the fly in there. They're detected and used automatically.

This one for example is part of a default Duality plugin, and it handles the fact that I moved the ProfileRenderer to a different namespace at some point. You can write your own to handle this and delete it again once you've re-saved all Resources in your project (See that button in the top right where you can also select your serialization method).

Preferably though, as SirePi said, try to avoid renaming Types while they're in use ^^
