If you're writing custom shaders, it may be of interest to you that, with v2.0, there are now some builtin (uniform) shader variables. You can find the full list here.

Feel free to use them in your shaders by defining a uniform of the appropriate name and type. Especially GameTime should be useful for animations, and the Camera ones can be used to reverse-engineer the visual scale or world position of a vertex in the vertex shader, if needed.
