So as most of you who hang out in the chat already know, I started this side project using Duality after I turned out to like a recent game jam game more than usual. For now, I'll just drop in some gifs to watch, you'll probably get the idea. Maybe this will become a worklog later, maybe not. We'll see :)

Evading enemies. Will probably make them less good / reliable at evading for gameplay reasons:

Edit: Here's the version that I ended up with for now:

Their leap strength is now influenced by how dangerous they perceive the attack to be. If you're weak and doing a front attack into their spike, they might as well just stand there and let you run into them. They'll also leap much less far if your attack is slower or not as close.

More work on the AI: Enemies now retreat, either blindly running in low-health panic mode:

Or slowly backing off while still in combat mood:

Nice detail on the pointy bit that retracts.
How is damage calculated? A mix of speed and angle?

Yep, speed and angle of impact compared to the current attack direction - so if you attack head-first into the blade of an enemy, you'll get as much damage as you deal out. This favors fast-paced gameplay, since the only real opportunity to get a solid advantage is being fast enough to get a sideways attack to your target.

Added audio, hit effects and splatter "decals" yesterday at a local game jam:

You can't see the audio here, but I assure you there is some xD Background music, attack, hit and death effects for now. All of them based on CC-0 content so I don't get licensing problems should I decide to put this up on itch.io at some point - so a big thank you to all those content creators out there who share their stuff in the public domain. You guys are a big help, wherever you are. :) :1+:

If you're searching stuff like that yourself, I recommend FreeSound and OpenGameArt - yep, that last one also has music and effects!
