Hello All,

I am just starting out with Duality and have just completed the spaceship movement tutorial. Several times during the tutorial Dualitor has crashed. Each time I would just reopen the program and continue where I left off. This also happened to the test project I had attempted before the tutorial.

I have just deleted the program and re-downloaded the latest version, but again it continues to crash on me.

I am just given a generic "Duality Editor needs to close" message and clicking the more information button gives me this:

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Local\Temp\WER38D1.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Local\Temp\WER4476.tmp.appcompat.txt
C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Local\Temp\WER4523.tmp.mdmp

Read our privacy statement online:

If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline:
C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt

Inside C:\Users\Nick\AppDataLocal\Temp there are no files with those names.

I am running windows 7 Professional with Visual Studio 2017. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

-Nick

Hey there and welcome!

Duality crashing completely rather than running into a bug and hitting undefined behavior is somewhat of a rare occurrence, especially if it happens seemingly at random. Can you upload the logfile_editor.txt after Duality was closed due to a crash? Maybe that will give us a hint what's going on.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I will upload it when I get back to the desktop on Monday, I have loaded Duality on a laptop for the weekend and have had no issues.

Hmm.. nothing particularly weird in there and no stack trace either. However, since it says you're on an Intel machine, and also states that it isn't able to get any multisampling working:

Code:
[Core] Msg: Determining OpenGL context capabilities...
[Core] Msg: Requested 16 MSAA samples, but got 0 samples instead.
[Core] Msg: Assuming MSAA is unavailable. Duality will not use Alpha-to-Coverage masking techniques.

Is it possible that you have a dual GPU system where an onboard Intel GPU does all the regular work while a dedicated GPU is only activated for games? If that is the case, you should be able to check your AMD or NVidia Control Panel to see which usage policy is active. In a typical "only used for games" policy, Duality is not recognized automatically and will be stuck with the onboard GPU. This normally leads to reduced performance, not crashes, but you never know.

In the same vein, are your graphics drivers up-to-date?
